Do ‘bigot’ people only have right to freedom?

What happened in Vegas should remain in Vegas.

But, I only wish I could buy the above point in regard to what happened last month in India; the whole Salman Rushdie controversy. And not take up the same thing again. But I see it as my responsibility to talk about this.

Since, the day news about Rushdie’s plan to visit India came in news, the protest started across the country. Everybody who did not even knew about SV controversy came on streets.

Whatever that happened was something, a lot of people knew will happen. Salman Rushdie- an Indian first, got no chance to speak his mind; and to mention specifically in his own country. Same had happened with Tasleema Nasreen as well.

‘Educated’ looking people carrying swords in their hands and ours ‘opportunistic’ politicians won the ‘plan’ to not to let Rushdie enter in his own country of birth.

In every set of discussion or argument or debate or even a battle, somebody has to loose and face savior damage. At most of times, people like you-and-me are at receiving end. We’re those who’re at loss. We’re the people, for whom such petty issue does not make a whole lot of difference. The defeat we had in this whole controversy is irreversible. Rushdie is now an Indian non-appearance of our defeat. It is the country’s defeat, the defeat of the people who say they’re liberal in their saying and doing. I don’t give a fuc* to the rule which cannot provide security for few hours to his own author. (Common people are far-sight).

A lot of people, I met including my family members and friends said: “how does it make a difference or say how does it matter at all”; if Rushdie is able to visit India or otherwise. How does it change their life if somebody is deprived of his right to freedom? OR say they themselves are deprived of their right to freedom; In case when the voice on open platform like internet is been prohibited. We’re still kid, when it comes to understanding that, if the person next to you is killed brutally and you remain silent. You could be next- in ‘to be killed’ list.

We Indians are sometime too cocky and fussy about our fundamental rights. The level of freedom given to anyone in India to praise & preach his religion, visit a shrine OR to create a ruckus of public property is also given to a skeptic. Like, everyone else he also has right to not only exercise but promote his ideas and beliefs.

Do we really need to be proud of this country called India?

We think we’re artistically but had no dignity to honor Maqbool Fida on ones’ own canvas, a country which says that, they’re huge at heart but could not give a piece of land to a refugee writer.

One of my Uncles does not believe in any religion; but continues to listen to bells at templates and prayers at mosque every morning and evening. He says

“I have never complained that my sentiments were hurt. I wonder why these ‘Religious’ or ‘Bigot’ people needs to act so troublesome all the time“.

If I go ahead and talk anything bad about anybody’s religious scripture, I will be warned about possibility of riots. If somebody portrays your God in a painting, we take our swords out. On a single unacceptable word, Fatwas’ are issued. And then after, those people continue to be dissatisfied. And look for more ways to be in ‘limelight’.

If you have issued a Fatwa against anyone, then what is your concern with him anymore?

Rushdie, is an example of above statement. It should be of no concern to those Fatwa issuing institutions that what he is doing, where he is suppose to go, what is he speaking or writing. You have yourself declared that he does not belong to your religion.

A single sentence against a religious book, a statute or a picture of Prophet ends up with hundred of cases against you. In India, even the court of law punishes such people stating that his intentions were to hurt religious sentiments.

My Uncle- a skeptic also said: “I have never filed a compliant stating that on Christmas or Id, I was asked to make a compulsory donation at my work place”. If a religious person or institution like Debond can make their point and exercise their right to freedom then why can’t someone like my uncle or even people like Rushdie (this does not mean that Rushdie is a skeptic person). They also have same amount of rights on words.

In our endeavors towards excellence, when it comes to ban a book; we certainly have earned a good name. We feel proud to insult a writer or an artist. We have become so conscious of ones’ presence and intolerant that now we can’t even listen to a writer.

No matter, what amount of risk was on Rushdie, regarding his visit to India, the government should not have escaped from their responsibility to provide enough security?

Do we really need such a government-which is worth nothing? World 3rd largest democracy does not have guts to provide an Indian born person enough security to visit his own country. Do we still need to have faith on our government and police, who themselves are somewhat handcuffed by institutions like Deoband.

P.S. My intentions are not to hurt anybody’s religious sentiments. *PEACE*

It’s time, we ban India TV

Let me start with a question. How many if you think that India TV (some people call it a news channel) should be banned.

Feel free to give in your answers in above pool and read further.

Well, I am an aspiring journalist and I follow almost all the news channels. In last some years of following these channels, one thing I can say with full surety is that a lot of people want this channel- India TV to be banned. Just like me. I am tired and frustrated about existence of this channel. The quality of news content and team of (pseudo) journalist is not only poor but a lot more pathetic than that.

I sometime wonder how Government can allow this channel to continue broadcasting; what they call news. And more then that it is more annoying that how can somebody work at such a channel (May be they don’t get job, anywhere else).  If I had to mention some example about what kind of news they show, I have to be cautious. My readers from countries likeUK, US andDenmarkwill laugh out like anything. For people fromIndia-it would be OK or say a common news piece.  “Kya alien aapki gay ka dud pete ha” (does aliens, feed themselves from your cows) “Dekhe..Kutte aur Bille ki shaddi” (Look, a dog and a cat getting married)

 The examples of India TV stories are endless. And they continue to be worsening with every story.

 I genuinely believe that it’s the high time, Govt. should ban this channel. The kinds of stories played on this channel are not only outrageous but sometime defamatory too. I sometime wonder; how do they mange making such news. The level of journalism at this channel is worsening every minute. The other Hindi channels also show poor quality of news sometime but with this channel, things are opposite. They show sensible news sometime.

I feel pissed off (excuse my language) watching India TV. The way they turn the whole news in worst possible sense is unacceptable. Even without watching India TV, I can sense what kind of news they would be playing.

 Like, a hypothetical example Yuvraj Singh is suffering from Cancer at the moment. (God bless him)

India TV will play this news as “Yuvraj Singh pe Yaamraj ka saya ” “Yuvraj Singh ka aant karib”

Passport seva project-II

Post a day 2011

Today, I went to the Passport seva office for my passport renewal work, as I disclosed in my previous post. And with this post I would be sharing my experience of been their and getting the work done there. Firstly, the office is based in a mall. Yes you read it correct a passport office is in a mall. The infrastructure was above expectation. Ample parking space, world class waiting area with all the facility’s available. I was told to reach there by 11.30, which I did, after initial security and appointment check, I entered the document checking area, where I was told to wait till 11.55 because they said that my file will not open on their system anytime before 5 minutes to my appointment time. They checked all my documents and verified all the information and issued me a token no. The Photostat facility is available inside the passport seva office itslef along with water and coffee machines. In the same premises they have two computers installed, where one can access all the passport related information.

In the second stage, I entered the waiting area; getting here was not easy too, they have security access control system installed on huddle gate. Till the time one don’t scan the barcode on file, the huddle will not open and after that I was expected to wait in waiting hall, out there 3 Plasma screens were present to call the token no’s, within 5-7 minutes of waiting, my number was called out.

On the third stage, there were more then 25 counters to cater the first level of application. My first application work got over within 15 minutes, my photo was clicked, my documents were scanned, I was asked to verify all my information on a computer screen. The executive taking care of my application was really helpful and she personally made sure that all the things were correct. On the fourth stage, it took me 10 minutes in total along with waiting time to get the documents verified. It was here I saw some senior officials, may be they were recruited directly from Govt. passport office, but believe me they were not working like Govt. officials. They did their job perfectly. And on final stage it took me 20 minutes in total. And finally I was asked to fill a feedback form, in which for but obvious reasons I filled Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Each and every staff at this centre was very helpful and performed their duties in an excellent manner. Big time thumbs up to TCS people. They are simply perfect. And just last thing, as I’m writing this post, I checked about the status on the website, it showed that police verification has started already. Excellent job done again.

Just because I’m a widow; doesn’t mean I can’t be happy anymore. WORLD WIDOW WOMENS DAY

The title of this post is the plight of every widow women in this world; especially in Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

People in these countries are still not ready to accept widow women as part of society. I agree that there is been a major change in mentality of people in past few decades but the idea of not accepting a widow women as part of our society still prevails in many parts of India.

If we look into statistics there are 24 cr 50 lakh widow women in this world, out of which 4 cr 20 lakh widow are from India. In Europe the number of widow women is 13% of their population and out of all the widows 11 cr 60 lakh widow women lives below poverty line.

In December last year, UN declared June 23 as World Widow Day. This was done in order to make this world realize that there is a section of society who is not happy to some extent and are bound to leave in many restrictions. I fully support this idea and believe that we as a world need to understand the issues and problems attached to life of widow women in this male dominated society.

I would particularly talk about the situation of widow women in India. The problem with Indian ideology is that we know it well that how many MBA executives, IIT Graduates and IAS Officers we will need in 2020, but we don’t know that what will be the number & condition of widow women in country will be like in 2020.

If we go in villages of Haryana and Rajasthan, a widow woman there is still treated to be a curse on family and is considered un-auspicious. The families there are still not ready to accept that if the woman is a widow; she is not because of her will. She is because of some reason beyond her control. Death of a human being is neither in any man’s hand nor in any women’s. But she is still treated in way that it was because of her; the husband died.

The condition of Indian Widow Women is at an extremely poor and unacceptable stage. The war widow of 1971 war were questioned when they re-married. 15 % Children of widow women die before the age of 5. The government in India gives widow women pension of Rs 400 only.

On this world women widows day; I really think that government should take some serious steps to make the situation of widow women better in country.

In my opinion following things should be considered seriously:-

1) Widow Remarriage should be ACCEPTED MORALLY all across the country especially in villages where the idea of widow remarriage is still not accepted;
2) The women should be made self reliant by some kind of educational or job-oriented programs;
3) It should be made compulsory for children to take care of their widow mother and don’t send her to some old age home;
4) Centers to live and work must be developed in order to give these women a better living;
5) The amount of pension should be increased to a relevant amount.

The major thing I would like to focus on is that if a widower men can remarry then why not a women. I know that widow remarriage is now accepted in Metropolitan cities but what about the small cities and villages, where a widow woman is still not allowed to remarry. If a woman dies than why not her husband is blamed upon for killing his wife, which happens when husband dies and woman is blamed for killing him.

A widower man lives a very normal life and doesn’t face any problems while living in society, but why a woman has to face these problems.

On this Worlds Widow Women day. I pledge to support this cause and believe that government will surely take some steps in improving the condition of widow women.
